Welcome to the city of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. There is so much to discover in this buzzing place.
You can walk around the historic centre of Rio, starting at the ferry port at Praça XV, visit the Imperial Palace, the Tiradentes Palace, the churches, the narrow cobbled streets, and commercial houses, and have lunch in a typical kilo-restaurant.
Or get to know Lapa and Santa Teresa, including Cinelândia, the Municipal Theatre, the Cathedral, the Arches of Lapa, and Selaron's stairs.
If you are into social tourism and favela tourism, I will happily show you the favelas of Rio de Janeiro from the point of view of the residents.
There is, for example, the tour on the Morro (hill) do Cantagalo. The entire favela is recognized as a museum nowadays and cultural activities happen on a regular basis, apart from the courses for children and adults that are taking place every day.
The 'Cinematographic Tour' takes you up on the Morro da Babilônia. You will get to know where scenes of films like 'Orfeu Negro', 'Elite Squat', and 'City of Men' were shot.
The ultimate adventure tour goes up the Morro do Vidigal and that is all the way to the top of the pointy hill Dois Irmãos that you can see from everywhere in the South Zone.
Check out my information about activities, there are lots of ideas of things you can do, either on your own, like a night out in Lapa or a run and/or work-out along the beaches or the lagoon; with me, like the nature walks, waterfalls, and hiking up to the peaks of Rio; or with a tour operator specialized in adventure tourism for rafting, diving, paragliding, etc.
